By the end of 2024, more than 300 thousand hectares of land for organic farming were certified in Kazakhstan. The main export markets for organic products are the EU countries: Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland. Kazakhstan exports organic wheat, lentils, chickpeas and oilseeds. This information was announced by the Vice Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Baghlan Bekbauov at the 4th meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States.
“Organic agriculture today is not only a matter of sustainable production, but also an element of environmental, social and food security. Kazakhstan is consistently developing this area, and we have already achieved significant results,” B. Bekbauov noted.
According to him, the Law “On the Production and Circulation of Organic Products” has been adopted, regulating the development of the industry at the legislative level. A voluntary guarantee system (PGS) has been introduced for small farmers, based on the experience of Kyrgyzstan. A Roadmap for the Development of Organic Agriculture for 2024–2025 has been developed and is being implemented. The state has provided for subsidies of up to 50% of the cost of certification of organic production.
The first agricultural technology park in the region in the field of organic farming is being created on the basis of the Barayev Scientific and Production Center, which will receive a European certificate of conformity this year.
“We are ready to strengthen cooperation within the amalgamated territorial community and strengthen joint work to promote organic products in the markets of member countries, harmonize standards and requirements in the field of organics, exchange advanced technologies, and train and retrain personnel,” the vice minister said.
