Kazakhstan is the world leader in the share of grain processing products in total grain equivalent exports. According to the International Grains Council, Kazakhstan's average annual wheat export volume (in grain form) is approximately 10 million tonnes.
At the same time, Kazakhstan also exports approximately 5 million tonnes of processed grain products—2 million tonnes of food flour and 3 million tonnes of feed flour. This translates into a 50% share of processed grain products in total grain equivalent exports.
This high share of processed product exports is the best indicator among other wheat exporting countries. Kazakhstan's closest rival in this ranking is Argentina, with a flour export share of 5% of total grain equivalent exports to foreign markets. Russia has 3%, and the United States has 2.3%.
It's worth noting that Kazakhstan firmly holds second place in the global top 10 for food flour exports, just behind Turkey, with an annual export volume of approximately 2 million tonnes.
Zhandos Kuanyshev, First Vice President of Astyk Trans and Head of the Logistics Committee of the Kazakhstan Grain Union, shared similar information in an interview with ElDala.kz. He noted that Kazakhstan maintains a leading position in the supply of wheat and grain products to foreign markets thanks to an optimal balance between these two types of products, which are in demand in foreign markets. Furthermore, competition for wheat in Kazakhstan's domestic markets between grain processors and grain traders is beneficial for the country's farmers: in the competition for Kazakhstani wheat, buyers offer farmers a fair price. Thus, the established market balance ensures sufficient profitability for grain crop cultivation in the country. An imbalance in this balance could lead to losses for all market participants.
ElDala.kz contacted the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan for confirmation of these figures for the export of grain products and wheat. We were interested in the question: does the agricultural ministry consider the situation in the country's grain market stable?
Vice Minister of Agriculture Yermek Kenzhekhanuly, citing official statistics, confirmed the above figures: in 2025, Kazakhstan's grain exports exceeded 10.1 million tons (including 9 million tons of wheat and 1.1 million tons of barley). Exports of food flour amounted to 1.9 million tons, and feed flour, 2.9 million tons.
"The total volume of processed grain exports amounted to 4.8 million tons, which is approximately 50% of wheat exports. For comparison, the share of processed grain exports in total grain exports for other major global exporters is: Argentina – approximately 3.5% (wheat exports – 13.4 million tons, flour exports – 477,000 tons), and the United States – approximately 0.9% (wheat exports – 24.8 million tons, flour exports – 225,000 tons). According to Trademap, by the end of 2025, Kazakhstan will rank second in the world in food flour exports, with a volume of 1.9 million tons, behind Turkey (2.3 million tons), Yermek Kenzhekhanuly cited the data.
