The Natural Monopolies Regulation Committee denied KTZ's request for an early revision of its mainline rail tariffs, APK News reports, citing information from the Association of Kazakhstan Freight Rail Carriers.
"The regulator conducted a comprehensive analysis of the application, organized public hearings with the participation of government agencies, the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, and the media, and concluded that the submitted materials do not provide sufficient economic justification for changing the current tariff before its expiration," the Association noted.
As a reminder, the mainline rail tariffs were approved at the end of 2025 for the period 2026–2030.
Therefore, the current rates remain in effect in accordance with the previously agreed schedule.
As reported, in April, KTZ submitted an application to increase mainline rail tariffs effective June 1, 2026. KTZ submitted a similar application in February. It was proposed that tariffs for grain cargoes would double and fertilizers would increase by 2.3 times starting April 1. However, KREM rejected this request. Grain exporters appealed to the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs (NCE) requesting a moratorium on tariff increases.
