Chemical treatments against locust pests continue in Kazakhstan's regions. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of June 29, approximately 1.5 million hectares, or 70% of the projected area, have been treated.
To monitor the implementation of protective measures, the leadership of the Agricultural Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan is currently visiting the Atyrau and Mangystau regions.
This year, 2.2 million hectares are planned to be treated, a 30% decrease compared to the 2024 target.
This year's innovations include the introduction of a unified service procurement system, which has centralized processes and improved the efficiency of budgetary funds; the use rates for fan sprayers have been adjusted, decreasing from 100 to 70 hectares (the number of equipment deployed has increased by 556 units, a 25% increase compared to the 2025 target).
In addition, the phytosanitary service's equipment fleet was upgraded, with 103 drones purchased, 57 of which were for survey work and 46 for chemical treatment.
To improve the effectiveness of locust pest control, the FITOCENTRE app was launched, and a partnership project is being implemented with the FAO, focusing on the use of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
