Kazakhstan will continue to supply wheat to North Africa. Rustam Zhanatayev, Managing Director of the Food Corporation, announced this at the Agricom 2025 conference in Astana.
"While previously Kazakhstani wheat was represented on global markets only in the durum and hi-pro segments, thanks to transport subsidies, we were able to enter distant markets with ordinary third-class wheat," noted Rustam Zhanatayev.
Kazakhstani wheat was particularly well received in North Africa. Overall, thanks to transport subsidies, Kazakhstan was able to export 2 million tons of soft wheat to distant markets last season, compared to 600,000 tons in previous years.
"The government has decided to extend transport subsidies for another year, until September 1, 2026. This will ensure the continued presence of Kazakhstani wheat on the global market," added Rustam Zhanatayev.
It's worth noting that representatives from 24 countries participated in the Agricom 2025 conference, although the international presence is typically half that. Potential buyers of Kazakh grain came to Astana from countries to which shipments began last season thanks to transport subsidies.
