In recent years, Kazakhstan has solved the problem of the "bottleneck" at railway junctions with Russia and Uzbekistan. In particular, at the Saryagash junction, the capacity has been increased from 24 to 35 trains. Similar work is being carried out in the direction of China. This was announced at a government meeting by Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev.
"Since July, additional trains have been launched in the direction of China on the Dostyk-Moiynty line. Thus, issues with railway junction points have been resolved. Kazakhstan Railways are required to fully meet the export-import needs of Kazakhstan's business. In the future, it is planned to increase the capacity to 296 million tons, which is a 40% increase," the minister noted.
He reported that construction work is currently underway on five railway lines. Two major projects will be completed ahead of schedule this year: the Dostyk-Moiynty section and the Almaty bypass line. Next year, the Moiynty-Kyzylzhar and Darbaza-Maktaaral lines will be put into operation.
A large-scale modernization of 3 thousand km of railway sections has also begun this year.
“These works are equivalent to the construction of new tracks. For example, the capacity of the Kyzylzhar-Sekseul section will increase from 8 to 25 trains, and on the Kandyagash-Tobol section - from 7 to 25,” said Nurlan Sauranbayev.
At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Transport noted that five international railway corridors pass through Kazakhstan. Over the past 10 years, the volume of transit has doubled, and in 2024 it reached 27.4 million tons.
“Taking into account the work being carried out in the railway industry, the volume of transit this year will reach 33 million tons, and next year it should be more than 54 million. The volume of transit transportation by the end of 2029 is planned to be increased to 67 million tons,” the minister concluded.
