Since the beginning of the year, the national grain operator of Kazakhstan - the Food Contract Corporation - has sold 483.6 thousand tons of grain. The main buyers were flour mills, processing plants, livestock and poultry farms, the Ministry of Agriculture reported.
The Food Contract Corporation continues to sell wheat of various grades and is ready to provide grain to interested buyers at market price.
As specified by the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of last week, the average cost of ordinary wheat of the 3rd grade on the domestic market was at the level of 100 thousand tenge / t with VAT. The price of grain of the 4th grade was 95 thousand tenge / t with VAT.
This spring, Kazakhstan recorded an increased demand for wheat, which led to a slight increase in prices for it. Compared to November 2024, the cost of grain increased by no more than 25%. At the same time, the increase did not have a significant impact on the purchasing activity of consumers, the Ministry of Agriculture believes.
The Ministry of Agriculture recalled that the cost of wheat on the domestic market has been declining since 2023, when a situation arose in which the selling price did not cover the cost of production. This created serious financial difficulties for farmers. In the fall of 2024, due to a record grain harvest and a supply surplus, market prices fell again. In the spring of 2025, demand from processing plants and traders began to recover, which led to a moderate increase in the cost of wheat.
"The situation with grain on the domestic market of Kazakhstan remains stable. Its volumes are sufficient to meet the needs of key industries, including flour milling, livestock and poultry enterprises," the department said.
Today, the Food Corporation stores 1.1 million tons of grain in its resources, including minimum reserves of food wheat in the amount of 500 thousand tons and 200 thousand tons of feed.
Since April of this year, the Food Corporation has been selling wheat through the commodity exchange. The exchange trading format provides open access to all buyers to the grain resources of the Food Corporation, and also promotes transparent formation of market prices for grain.
