Kazakhstan grain exports in the 2024-25 season increased by 53%, mainly the increase in shipments goes to traditional markets - to Central Asia, and grain volumes also went to Iran and Azerbaijan. At the same time, KTZ called on exporters to more actively develop alternative routes, for which subsidies for transportation costs have been introduced this year.
The results of grain transportation for six months (September 2024 - February 2025) were discussed at a meeting of the Grain Headquarters with the participation of industry representatives.
"Due to the March holidays, loading rates decreased, and there was a surplus of wagons. KTZ calls on shippers to more actively use subsidized routes - the ports of Russia and the Baltics," the KTZ press service reported following the meeting.
According to the company, 7.4 million tons of new-harvest grain were loaded through the KTZ network in the first half of the marketing year, which is 47% more than a year earlier. Domestic transportation increased by 30% (1.6 million tons), exports by 53% (5.8 million tons).
Export growth was recorded in all directions: to Central Asia - 3.2 million tons (+33%), to Afghanistan - 248 thousand tons (+36%), to Iran - 660 thousand tons (17-fold growth), to Azerbaijan - 360 thousand tons (90-fold growth).
