According to the advisory forecast, February in Kazakhstan is expected to be warm with moderate precipitation, according to Kazhydromet.
"Average temperatures are expected to be 1-2°C above normal across most of the country, with temperatures around normal in the southeast. Precipitation is forecast to be around normal across most of the country, with above-normal precipitation in the northwestern half and in the mountainous and foothill regions of the south, southeast, and east," forecasters report.
In the first ten-day period of February, temperatures in the west and northwest (Aktobe region) are expected to drop to -23°C to -28°C at night and -15°C to -23°C during the day. By the end of the ten-day period, frosts are expected to ease, dropping to -10°C to -20°C at night and -0.8°C during the day.
In the north, central, and eastern parts of Kazakhstan, a brief rise in nighttime temperatures is expected in the first ten-day period, ranging from -15 to -25°C to -2 to -10°C, and from -5 to -13°C to -4°C during the day. By the end of the ten-day period, nighttime temperatures will drop to -18 to -28°C, and daytime temperatures will drop to -13 to -20°C.
In the southwest, south, and southeast of the country, nighttime temperatures are expected to range from -5°C to -5°C to -3 to -11°C (in the northern Kyzylorda region, down to -18°C). Daytime temperatures are expected to rise from -3 to -10°C to -8 to -17°C, followed by a drop to -0.8°C.
Overall, in February, the coldest days are expected in the west, north, center, and east of the country, with nighttime temperatures dropping to -21°C to -30°C, and in the mountainous eastern regions, to -35°C, with daytime temperatures reaching -13°C to -20°C. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise to thaw levels in the middle of the first ten-day period (early in the west) and on some days in the second and third ten-day periods.
In the southern half of the country, nighttime temperatures are expected to range from -5°C to -3°C to -15°C, with daytime temperatures ranging from -0°C to -8°C to -17°C.
In the northern half of Kazakhstan, precipitation is expected to be predominantly snow, while in the southwest and southern half of the country, rain and sleet are expected. Fog and icy conditions are forecast, along with increasing winds and, in the northern half, snowstorms.
