By the end of 2025, the volume of freight transported by rail in Kazakhstan reached 320 million tons, a 5.5% increase compared to 2024. Domestic freight traffic totaled 177 million tons, a 2.7% increase compared to 2024. Export traffic increased to 89.2 million tons, exceeding the 2024 level by 7.2%, while import traffic reached 20.7 million tons (+2.7%). The largest growth was recorded in transit traffic. By the end of the year, transit traffic totaled 33 million tons, a 19.9% increase compared to 2024.
The Ministry of Transport emphasized that grain transportation has also seen a significant increase. Last year, 14.3 million tons of grain were transported by rail, a 31% increase compared to 2024 (10.8 million tons). Of this total, 11 million tons were exported (an increase of 33%), while 3.3 million tons were transported domestically (an increase of 26%).
Steady positive growth is observed in key export destinations, including Central Asian countries, Iran, Afghanistan, and Russia.
Significant growth was driven by increased shipments of processed grain products: the volume of feed meal to China reached 3.1 million tons, a 3.8-fold increase, indicating expansion in the production of high-value-added products.
New export markets are also expected to open in 2025, including African countries, Vietnam, and the European Union.
