Kazhydromet has published a preliminary drought forecast for May. Given the current meteorological conditions, moderately dry conditions are expected:

  • in the Kostanay region - in the Amangeldinsky, Dzhangeldinsky districts and in the vicinity of Arkalyk;
  • in the West Kazakhstan region - in Kaztalovsky, Zhanybeksky, Zhangalinsky and Akzhaiksky districts,
  • in the Aktobe region - in the Shalkarsky district
  • in the Atyrau region - in the Kurmangazinsky and Isataysky districts,
  • in the Karaganda region - in the Aktogaysky and Shetsky districts,
  • in the Almaty region - in the Balkhash district,
  • in the Zhetysu region - in the Alakolsky district
  • in the Zhambyl region - in the Moyynkumsky district
  • in the Turkestan region - in the Suzaksky district,
  • Also, drought conditions are forecasted in most of the Mangistau (Beineu, Mangistau, Karakiyansky) and Kyzylorda (Aralsky, Kazalinsky, Karmakshinsky, Shiiliysky districts, Kyzylorda) regions.

In the rest of the country, moisture conditions are expected to be close to normal.

Let us recall: this year, Kazakhstan plans to sow 23.7 million hectares. Including grain and leguminous crops will be planted on an area of ​​16.6 million hectares, oilseeds - 3.3 million hectares, potatoes - 83.4 thousand hectares, forage - 3.3 million hectares. Sowing work is already underway in the southern regions. The start of mass sowing is expected on May 15.
