In March, Chinese Railways will join the joint venture MIDDLE CORRIDOR MULTIMODAL Ltd., which will give the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route a new impetus. This became known following a meeting between the management of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and the head of China Railways Guo Zhuxue on February 24, 2025 in Beijing.
At the meeting, special attention was paid to the development of the TITR, the volume of transportation on which increased 33 times. It was also noted that the volume of transportation between Kazakhstan and China in 2024 reached a record 32 million tons (+ 13%), and in January 2025 the increase was 18%.
Following the meeting, plans for 2025 were agreed upon. From March 1, the number of trains via Altynkol-Khorgos will increase (from 8 to 15 per day), and from July 1 - via Dostyk-Alashankou (from 14 to 28). This will increase the export potential and create new opportunities for Kazakhstani manufacturers, according to KTZ.
Recall that the Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd. joint venture was created in 2023 by railway companies of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia on a parity basis. The company's task is to provide services on a one-stop shop principle, guarantee delivery times, and pursue a coordinated policy to develop multimodal services in the direction China - Europe/Turkey - China.
