The harvest campaign is underway in Kazakhstan. Farmers are continuing their work to gather the crop and supply the domestic market. Food security issues are among the priorities outlined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the country's harvest campaign was ongoing as of September 9. Farmers have harvested 9.6 million hectares of grain crops, representing 61.6% of the total area. A total of 13.5 million tons of grain has been threshed, with an average yield of 14.1 centners per hectare. The pace of harvesting this year is significantly ahead of the figures for the same period last year. At the same time, the incoming crop maintains stable quality characteristics.
Licensed grain receiving facilities have already accepted 2.83 million tons of grain. For comparison, the volume received during the same period last year was 552.7 thousand tons; thus, the volume of grain received has increased more than fivefold. Particular attention is being paid to crop quality. Laboratory analysis results show that 93% of the incoming soft wheat falls into food-grade categories. Within the food-grade wheat segment, 75% is Class 3 wheat and 18% is Class 4 wheat. Class 5 wheat and non-classified grain account for 7% of the total. A gluten content exceeding 28% was recorded in 51% of the soft wheat tested; another 23.6% showed levels of 25–27%, while 25.4% fell within the 23–24% range.
These figures demonstrate the high food-quality potential of the new harvest and create the necessary conditions to supply the domestic market with high-quality grain, as well as to further develop the export potential of the country's agro-industrial complex. The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with regional administrations, is continuously monitoring the pace of harvesting, grain intake and storage, grain quality grading, and the availability of necessary resources for farms.
**Over 6.3 million tonnes of other crops harvested**
Harvesting of other major agricultural crops is proceeding in parallel. To date, 906.5 thousand tonnes of oilseeds, 2.4 million tonnes of vegetables, 1.8 million tonnes of melons and gourds, and 1.2 million tonnes of potatoes have been harvested. Regional task forces are coordinating field operations, ensuring the necessary conditions for the timely completion of the harvest campaign.
A total of 401.1 thousand tonnes of diesel fuel has been allocated to the regions for harvesting and autumn field operations. The supply of mineral fertilizers to agricultural producers is also ongoing; against an annual requirement of 2.3 million tonnes, contracts have been signed and 2 million tonnes—representing 85% of the annual volume—have already been shipped. This enables the simultaneous addressing of two key objectives: ensuring the uninterrupted completion of the current harvest campaign and preparing farmers in a timely manner for the next production cycle.
At this stage, priority tasks remain the timely completion of the harvest, the preservation of the gathered crop, quality-controlled grain intake, and the accumulation of sufficient food-grade grain reserves. The projected volume of the new harvest indicates strong food security potential and creates the conditions necessary to supply the domestic market with high-quality grain, as well as to further develop the export potential of the national agro-industrial complex. Efforts to ensure the country's food security and the sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex are continuing.
